WHY SCHENGEN?
The SCHENGEN Area is a region encompassing 29 European countries that have officially abolished border controls at their mutual borders. This means that travelers can move freely between these countries without passport checks or visa requirements. The Schengen Area includes countries Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, IcelandItaly, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland. If you’re planning to travel within this area, you won’t encounter internal border checks. However, it’s essential to check the entry requirements for your specific destination.
✈️ If you’re planning to travel to the Schengen Area, here’s what you need to know:
a. Visa-Free Travel: If you’re staying for 90 days or less within a 180-day period and visiting as a tourist or for specific reasons (such as business, medical treatment, or journalism), you don’t need a visa. This applies to countries like Austria, Belgium, France, Germany, Italy, and more.
b. Counting Days: Your total stay in the Schengen area must not exceed 90 days in every 180 days. You can travel to multiple Schengen countries within this period, and the 180-day clock keeps rolling. To calculate your stay, follow these steps:
✰ Check your planned departure date.
✰ Count back 180 days from that date to find the start of the 180-day period.
✰ Add up the days you’ve already spent in the Schengen area during that period.
✰ Calculate the days you’ll spend on your next trip and ensure the total doesn’t exceed 90.
c. Cyprus Exception: Cyprus is not part of the Schengen area. You can stay up to 90 days there without affecting your Schengen days.
✈️ The Schengen Area comprises 29 European countries that have abolished internal borders, allowing free movement of people. Here are the main types of Schengen visas:
1. Tourist Visa (L Visa): For short-term visits (up to 90 days within a 180-day period) for tourism, business, or medical purposes.
2. Business Visa (M Visa): Allows multiple entries for business-related activities within the Schengen area.
3. Airport Transit Visa: Permits transit through Schengen airports during layovers or flight changes.
